Speech Up

Our voices are powerful instruments that help us connect with the world so we must fully utilize what we have as it only takes one voice to create change.

We want to put into action a project that involves public speaking and encourages kids to speak up on things they're passionate about. It's a combination of speeches and speaking up. Our project is aimed at kids from Primary 4-6. It could become the next program for the kids who have participated in the Kids4Kids Buddy Reading Program.

We aim to improve the public speaking skills of young children and at the same time, build up their confidence in speaking English in front of their class or school, in secondary school interviews, for future studies, and to equip them to be future leaders.

Language learning helps develop strong cognitive skills, such as a better concept formation, mental flexibility, multitasking, listening skills and problem-solving, in addition to improving social interaction and encouraging connection between peers.

It's estimated that as much as 75% of the population struggles with a fear of public speaking to a certain degree.

Improving public speaking also helps to boost confidence and improves children's social skills.

Fact.

Fact.

Fact.

Our Project:

1. Hold sessions for students to write their own speech - Help them improve their writing skills (Good structure, good flow and cohesion in their writing).

2. Improve on the technical aspect of speaking - Express ideas with accurate vocabulary at the same time allowing them to fashion a coherent set of ideas into their speeches.

3. Incorporate fun elements (Eg. Tongue twisters to improve pronunciation).

4. Host a public speaking celebration (prizes included to boost their confidence and competitiveness).

*Because of the recent situation in HK, we are planning to hold a summer camp (5 days) instead of a series of one hour sessions. But if the situation does get better, the weekly one hour sessions will also go on.
