Improving students’ mental health, one story at a time
Through this project, we would like to mainly raise awareness for mental health. Student life culture in Hong Kong is very competitive and stress-inducing, and mental health in particular is put on the backburner. In particular, stress from homework and high expectations (from both parents and self) are the most common causes for mental health issues in youth. We would like to present mental health as an issue among the youth and to provide accessible help and a platform for people to learn more/discuss the issue. Through this project, we hope to normalise and talk about mental health in a safe setting, as well as make getting help much more accessible than before.
50% of students in Hong Kong feel high levels of stress
50% of all lifetime mental illnesses begin by age 14, and 75% by age 24
Practicing mindfulness will reduce the size of the grey matter in your brain's amygdala- a region that plays a significant role in stress
PSYCHE is an initiative that seeks to raise money and awareness for mental health through sharing student experiences/stories (whether it's in writing or some other art-form) on the matter, as well as helping secondary students deal effectively with mental health issues. A major objective of this project is to allow students to appreciate the importance of knowing how to control stress, and therefore improve their mental health, through learning mindfulness and practicing gratitude. In addition, our online platforms will consist of mindfulness tutorials and serve as a tool to enable students to share their experiences with mental health, and reach out and connect with each other.
